Framed is the tenth episode of season 1 of the W.I.T.C.H. TV series.

Plot

While at the Art Museum trying to capture the feeling of the Middle Ages for their school carnival, which Will decided to organise, Will, Taranee, Cornelia, and Hay Lin got sucked into the painting they were studying. Unbeknownst to the girls, Phobos knew they were trapped in the painting and sent Frost the Hunter after them, but the girls escaped with the help of Elias Van Dahl, the imprisoned artist of the painting.

Meanwhile, Irma, Caleb and Blunk had to stall for time at the Medieval Carnival and figure out how to get the girls back to Heatherfield. Anachronistic hell broke loose when Cedric and his goon platoon entered the painting to get the Heart of Kandrakar and the girls (namely Hay Lin as art is her area of expertise) had to paint like mad to get away. Irma and Caleb rescued the girls from the painting and managed to salvage the school carnival thanks to the number of people they brought back with them from the painting.

Comics connections

• This episode is based in issue 5 of the comics, where the W.I.T.C.H. girls were trapped inside a painting with weakened powers, only instead of the girls getting trapped in the picture by a furious Elyon, they were sucked into the picture by the Heart of Kandrakar itself.

Possible mistakes

• When the girls were pulled into the picture, the frame is gold, but when they fell out, the frame was wooden.
• When Will tried to transform Taranee, Cornelia, Hay Lin and herself, the Heart of Kandrakar wasn't glowing, but later it did.

Potentially explained

• Will said that they have no powers in the picture, but Hay Lin managed to blow a bowling ball into Cedric's tail with her powers. This could simply be an animation error. Alternatively, this may suggest that even though the Heart of Kandrakar was weak in the picture, the W.I.T.C.H. girls could still use their powers, because in many episodes, the girls could be seen using their powers in their earthly forms.
• The Heart only glows when it falls with Will down the chasm cut by Phobos, so it is possible that it was reactivated because the Guardians were being removed from the painting.

Trivia

• This episode marks the first and only speaking appearance of Elias Van Dahl.
• Will's last name, Vandom, was said onscreen for the first time.
• This is the only episode where none of the W.I.T.C.H. girls are shown in their Guardian forms.
• It is revealed that Prince Phobos only allowed pictures and sculptures that portray sadness into his castle. Any kind of art portraying happiness was prohibited.
• At the end of the episode, in a close-up of the painting, Elyon was shown wearing medieval clothing and with a sad look on her face. This foreshadows that Elyon has a connection to Meridian.
