The Key is the third episode of season 1 of the W.I.T.C.H. TV series.

Plot

When Caleb discovered that Blunk took the key he was supposed to leave behind in Meridian for Vathek, the girls return to Meridian to return the key before Cedric and Phobos discovered Vathek is a spy for the rebel army.

They planted the key on a general, Raythor, and he, instead of Vathek, was be thrown into the Abyss of Shadows.

In the B-story, Hay Lin decides to create for Caleb some new clothes to help him blend in on Earth.

Possible mistakes

• The key in this episode proper looks different from the key seen in both It Resumes and the flashbacks to the events of that episode in this one.
• When Will pulled the eel off of Taranee's back, her voice is replaced with Irma's.
• When Will is hugging Hay Lin, her arms pass through Hay Lin's wings.
• When the girls were talking to Blunk, Irma's skirt is green in one of the scenes.
• From this episode onwards, Will makes an indistinct and inaudible sound during the transformation sequence. Despite various theories, including that she is saying Leader or Keeper and different interpretations in closed captioning, her call-out remains shrouded in mystery. Candi Milo, who voices Irma Lair, revealed that Kelly Stables, who voices Will Vandom, never made a call-out word for that scene and it was an audio glitch.^{[citation needed]} This was fixed in season 2, in which Will first said "The Heart" and later "Quintessence".

Trivia

• This episode marks Raythor's only appearance in the first season, as he was later imprisoned in the Abyss of Shadows off screen.
• This is the only episode in which the girls make certain noises while transforming: Taranee made a startled noise, while Hay Lin and Irma giggled before saying their elements. Only Cornelia just said her element.
• Irma was imitating Elvis Presley when she said, "Thank you. Thank you very much." This was his main tagline in the 1950s and 1960s.
