Mira is an Altermere of Yan Lin. Mira and her species are a creation of the second season of the W.I.T.C.H. TV series in which she was voiced by Lauren Tom, the same as Yan Lin. Mira has no counterpart in the comic book series.
Plot
Upon her return, Nerissa attempted to corrupt Yan Lin by offering her power, youth, and finally the safety of her granddaughter, but Yan Lin refused all three.[1] Nerissa was forced to imprison Yan Lin, alongside Elyon, within the Heart of Meridian. Nerissa then created an Altermere to take her place.[2]
Initially, Mira did not realize she was an Altermere, believing she was Yan Lin, and was shocked when Nerissa revealed this to her. Mira tried to make Nerissa allow her to live by cooking for her, though the former Guardian leader was not swayed. Mira even admitted to Nerissa such a fact, adding that she had come to love Hay Lin as if she were her true granddaughter. Although the real Yan Lin had the unusually strong will to resist her former friend, Altermere Yan Lin's desire to live was stronger than her self-control, calling herself a flawed copy, carrying none of Yan Lin's strength. This was regarded as the only thing Nerissa needed and she fell under her thrall.[2] Mira's enthrallment and Yan Lin's imprisonment went unnoticed for a short while until an enthralled Mira tricked the Guardians into a confrontation with Nerissa.
The subsequent confrontation revealed that Nerissa had resurrected the old Guardians, which devastated Hay Lin, as she believed Yan Lin had betrayed her. Nerissa used Yan Lin's supposed loss to the dark side to taunt Hay Lin, in an unsuccessful attempt to break her spirit. Nerissa also had the brainwashed Mira taunt and magically fight her granddaughter, but when she kidnapped and used her boyfriend Eric as a hostage, Hay Lin reacted and fought back. Mira was defeated by a combination of Will and Cornelia due to the mind control making it difficult to fight against an opposing element.[3]
When Nerissa realized that Phobos was free and a threat to her she sent Mira and her other Guardians to fight W.I.T.C.H. During the battle the mind control placed on Cassidy began to wane and Irma used her powers to break it completely. Just as Mira, Halinor and Kadma were snapped out of the same control Nerissa returned. Upon realizing her control over the other elementals had been broken Nerissa affirmed that she still owned them and promptly imprisoned them alongside Elyon and Yan Lin within the Seal of Nerissa, granting herself powers over all five elements in the process.[4]
For the remainder of the season leading up to the finale, Mira supported Yan Lin in her mission to create harmony within the Seal to aid their escape. In the process, Mira began parroting her counterpart due to their connection and she worked to power Halinor's telepathy. [5]
Mira meets the family as part of the cover story about Yan reconnecting with her lost family while in China.
In the final episode of the second season, Yan Lin and her Altermere worked with the other prisoners within the seal to cinch its power from within to give Cedric indigestion. In addition, she also fuelled Halinor and Elyon's telepathic connection with Taranee. Upon the seal seperating and Weira's Jewel cracking the prisoners all escaped except Nerissa. Mira immediately tried to snap Hay Lin out of her Zenith Form though Yan Lin reminded her that Hay Lin was her grandaughter not Mira's. Fortunately, Hay Lin and the others returned to human form. Left with her freedom, Mira came to live on Earth, where she was introduced to Hay Lin's parents as Yan Lin's "long-lost twin sister Mira, to the delight of Joan and the shock of Chen.
